PREVENTIVE MEDICINE FOR YOUR DOGS AND CATS

Posted

This short article will focus on the importance of administering preventive medications to your pets, in order to avoid heartworm infections, internal (intestinal worms) and external (fleas and ticks) parasite infestations. It was believed that depending on the season of the year, then you would consider preventive medicine for your pet. However, as climate changes, and vectors for worms such as mosquitos for heartworms are more common on all states, then ALL pets should be on preventatives ALL year long. You may think that because your pet is strictly indoors, he or she wont be at risk. But it is not true. Mosquitos, and other parasites can come into your pets environments through doors and windows, or even attached to your clothes when you come into the house. Preventive medicine requires commitment in regards to administering the medication all year long. However, the commitment emotionally and financially is greater when we have to treat our pets and even our homes for any of these preventable infections or infestations. It is required for most Heartworm medications and flea/tick products to be administered by or on the order of a licensed veterinarian. It is important that your pets get tested at least once a year, or more often if any of the doses are missed, vomited, or washed off from your pet. Please call us to make an appointment, and let us help you have your pets up to date on tests and preventatives.
